Smokin’ Hot for Formal Night

Yesterday was a sea day on our way to Cozumel. I got up early as usual. I’m a morning person, what can I say. We went up to the Diamond Lounge for my morning latte and yogurt parfait. I love that the wait staff leaves little messages on my coffee wrapper every morning. Next stop was the dining room on deck 5 for our scheduled COVID test. It is a requirement to fly back into the US and Royal Caribbean very kindly facilitates it at no additional costs. Our results were sent to us in about 15 minutes through the TrustOne app. We then went down to Cafe Promenade so hubby could get his frozen coffee and I could get another latte but with lactose free milk. We had bought the coffee card which was $31 for 15 coffees so a really great deal.

After coffee, I headed up to the sports deck for a 9 am Zumba class. Hubby tagged along figuring he could read while I exercised. Our activities director was very excited to have so many people show up for her class. Apparently, it was the largest group she has had in the 5 cruises since the return to cruising. Needless to say, sweating in the sun while doing Zumba really burns some calories. (Every little bit helps)

After a quick shower, we had lunch in the main dining room. Table for 6 all to ourselves since you aren’t allowed to eat with people not in your party. Meals go so quickly onboard since there is no waiting for others to arrive or order. After lunch we went back to our cabin to read and relax.

I sat out on the balcony and finished my book (always a sad moment). I decided that I had better get busy straightening my hair since it was formal night. I always like to get our picture taken when we dress up. We each get a free photo with our Diamond status so we might as well look good. I noticed my straightener smoking from residual hair product, despite my cleaning it off. What I hadn’t realized was that the smoke detector was directly over my head until suddenly it started going off. Hubby quickly grabbed the fan to try to clear the smoke and get the alarm to stop. Next thing you know the phone is ringing. The bridge called to make sure everything was alright. They said they were sending someone to turn the alarm off. Well the alarm stopped shortly after hanging up. Mind you, I continued straightening my hair in the off chance they decided to confiscate my straightener. Next came the knock at the door. Hubby answered while I continued to straighten. The security officer advised us that he was wearing a body camera and was recording video and audio. We said that was fine as we joked about the unfortunate placement of the only electrical outlet. He asked if he could check the bathroom and we gladly obliged. We had nothing to hide. I finished straightening my hair and joked that I guess it’s time to get a new straightener. After thinking about it, that straightener over 8 years old so maybe it really is time for a new one.
